In Conversation with Eliza Chandler @ the NAC
Please join Eliza Chandler and myself at the Niagara Artists Centre Wednesday July 24 at 7pm for a conversation about my exhibition period of adjustment. It will be superb.
Eliza Chandler is an Assistant Professor in the School of Disability Studies at Ryerson University. Previous to this role, she was the Artistic Director of Tangled Art + Disability, a disability arts organization in Toronto, Canada. Chandler’s teaching and research bring together disability arts, disability studies, and activism. This includes her co-directorship of Bodies in Translation: Activist Art, Technology, and Access to Life, a SSHRC-funded partnership grant dedicated to the cultivation of disability arts in Canada. Chandler sits on the Board of Directors of the Ontario Arts Council and is a practicing curator.

I hope you have a chance to stop by and see period of adjustment at the Niagara Artists Centre this summer. The show’s been really well received and I’m quite proud of the work.
Working primarily in sculpture and performance, Carrie Perreault balances resistance and restraint in onerous actions that recount long-term precarity. In making her work, she expends great effort to achieve minimal results. This isn't about labour; she prioritizes process to reflect on systems of abuse and their connection to emotional and psychological experiences. Through gestural, often repetitive acts and narratives that resist closure, she alludes to complex trauma and its residual effects. By exploring, in a visceral way, failures, vulnerabilities, and the limits of her body, Perreault makes viewers keenly aware of their own.

Gettin' hot in the Kitchen
The Artist Cookbook Vol. 1 is a disaster. With 60 recipes submitted I am in way over my head, and so it goes. This project is still happening although it feels like a terrible mistake. I had no idea it was going to be such an extravaganza. That said, I can almost say that I know how to cook, which was one of the key intensions sooooo…. this is kind of a win! There will be some damn good recipes in this glorious book!! Check out my Instagram for food pics as I go along, and buy a fucking copy this fall!

SHOW.19 opens May 10 @ Idea Exchange, Cambridge Galleries
I’m so pleased to be included in the exhibition SHOW.19 at Idea Exchange with a really good roster of artists. The show runs from May 10 - June 29, 2019 and is curated by Iga Janik. […] “voice to the most ambitious and dedicated”. Oh geez. Better keep moving!
The Artist Cookbook Vol. 1
I asked a group Canadian artists to share a recipe with me. I’m putting together a cookbook with their generous offerings. I’m hoping this venture will help me develop my culinary skills but also I’m nosey and wanted to know what others were having for dinner. The recipes will be part of a publication that will be available in the fall. Everyone’s been so nice about this!
Solo Exhibition - Opens May 10
I have an exhibition called period of adjustment which opens May 10 at the Niagara Artists Centre. It’d be wonderful to see you at the opening reception! There will be also an artist talk some time in the summer so hopefully I’ll see you twice. The exhibition runs until August 17, 2019.
Over My Dead Body
The material applications on Over My Dead Body is complete. This weekend I scrubbed off most of the past 6 months worth of mark making with muriatic acid. The final step will be to concrete over all of this and sand each tile down.

Over My Dead Body
Miraculously after 7 months of form building, having two transport trucks drop off materials and hand-pouring 4,200 lbs. of concrete, the first phase of Over My Dead Body is complete. That was hard.
